History of Chinese Checkers

Chinese Checkers was invented in Germany in 1892 under the name "Stern-Halma". It is a simplified version of the older game Halma. Despite the name, the game has no historical connection to China — it was marketed as "Chinese Checkers" in the US in the 1920s to give it an exotic appeal. The game became popular worldwide and is now enjoyed by millions of players.

Basic Strategy

The key to winning Chinese Checkers is building "ladders" — lines of pieces that allow long chain jumps across the board. Experienced players think several moves ahead, positioning pieces to create jump opportunities while blocking opponents. Control the center of the board and keep your pieces together — isolated pieces are slow to advance.
